Prolong the life of your PC – detect hardware problems before they go too far
“Hardware” is the stuff in your PC or laptop that makes it work. RAM, ROM, motherboards, processors, hard drives. All those words that you know mean “physical bits of a computer”, but have little or no idea what they actually do. Which is dangerous, because hardware problems, if unchecked, are invariably fatal. Knowing the simple signs that could point to hardware problems can prolong the useful life of a computer by years, removing the need for expensive upgrades (not to mention the need for finding someone to restore all your lost data) every time you fry a motherboard.
Hardware, unlike software (“software” is all the programs that are on a computer, which can be re-loaded if there’s an error), can’t simply be reinstalled – hardware, as the name implies, is physical objects contained in the shell of a PC or laptop, which may need replacing in the event of hardware problems. The problem with hardware problems is that they are so difficult to pinpoint, unless you already know what you are doing: and if you’re reading this, it’s safe to assume that you don’t. So, here are the basics:
Most hardware problems manifest themselves in one of two ways: either they look like viruses, or simple software problems; or they appear to be catastrophic failures of your whole PC. In either case, if you have little idea what you are doing, or where to start repairing potential hardware problems: don’t. You’ll be wasting money on stuff that isn’t going to fix anything. Call in someone who can correctly identify and fix hardware problems and save yourself the hassle of buying a load of new parts that didn’t need replacing in the first place.
A classic example: you turn on your PC, nothing happens, you assume the worst kind of hardware problems and go buy a new motherboard. Only to discover that, having installed said motherboard, the PC still doesn’t do anything when you turn it on. Why? Because you were having hardware problems – with a plug. Power supply failure is the single most common cause of hardware problems. But people who don’t really know what they are about when it comes to diagnosing hardware problems never think of it because they have a conception of computers as far more complex than they really are. In reality most hardware problems are down to simpler things, like a CPU fan being stuck or a plug fuse having blown – simple hardware problems to fix, if you know what you’re looking for; stupidly expensive if you don’t.
Look at it this way. Would you start tinkering with a car engine, knowing nothing about mechanics, if your vehicle stopped working? Would you heck. You’d stand at the side of the road and scream for the AA. The same principle should apply to any computer that has, or that you think has, hardware problems. Call in the experts and let them do it right. We can guarantee you’ll end up spending far less money that way than if you try and do it yourself. Particularly if you use someone like Computer Repairs Ltd, who offer free consultations on their London number – 020 7473 1583, or through their website: www.computerrepairltd.co.uk. Don’t spend a fortune diagnosing complex hardware problems that don’t exist. Get the experts to do it and pay the right price.
